How to Reach Yala National Park


By Road (Bus / Taxi / Car)

Yala is accessible via well-connected highways from major cities in Sri Lanka.

• From Colombo: Approx. 280 km — 4.5 to 5 hours via the Southern Expressway (E01)

• From Galle / Matara: 3 to 3.5 hours

• From Ella / Haputale: 2.5 to 3 hours through scenic mountain and jungle roads

• Public Transport: Direct buses run daily from Colombo, Tangalle, Tissamaharama, Kataragama, and Matara.


By Train

There is no direct train to Yala.
Travelers usually take the Colombo–Matara or Colombo–Ella/Badulla route, then continue by taxi or bus to Tissamaharama (Yala’s gateway town).


By Air

Domestic air taxi services operate from Colombo to Hambantota / Wirawila, reducing travel time significantly. From there, it's a short road transfer to the park entrance.
